#Privacy: Facebook’s social media accounts hacked

Facebook’s Twitter and Instagram account was briefly hijacked by known hacking group OurMine.

The hacking group, OurMine, managed to hack into the official social media account on Twitter and Instagram for Facebook and Messenger Friday afternoon.

OurMine tweeted on Facebook’s Twitter account: “Hi, we are OurMine. Well, even Facebook is hackable but at least their security better than Twitter.”

The group also posted a photo of its logo on the Instagram accounts for Facebook and Messenger.

Twitter confirmed that the hack was due to a third party platform, Kohoros, a marketing platform utilised by businesses to manage their social media communications.

Once Twitter was made aware of the issue, they locked the compromised accounts. The accounts have since been restored.

The attack seems to follow a similar hack on the social media accounts of America’s National Football League and more than a dozen teams, to which OurMine claimed responsibility.

OurMine has previously targeted The New York times, HBO, and Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey. The group’s attacks are designed to show the lack of security within accounts and websites, to which the group offers its services to improve security.
