European Data Protection Summit Manchester to address post-Brexit data flows limbo

Brexit

Coming to the Victorian Warehouse in Manchester on 13th and 14th of November 2019, European Data Protection Summit (EUDPS) brings strategic content over two days of networking, industry discussion and top-level insight into data protection, privacy and security.

A critical juncture in the data flow debate

Data transfer issues have risen to the top of the business agenda as politicians in Europe and the UK approach the final stages of Brexit negotiations.

A deal for the UK’s prospective departure from the EU has yet to be signed off, and the European Union has not given organisations any certainty regarding how they should handle the movement of personal data out of the EU and into Britain.

Britain has until at least the end of 2020 to reach an agreement with Europe that will allow organisations to freely move data about customers to and from the EU, without breaching current data protection laws.

The aim for the UK would be to secure an adequacy requirement which would add it to a list of countries who data laws are accepted in harmony with that of Europe.

As doubt continues to overshadow one of the world’s most valuable assets, it is still imperative that business leaders come together with the experts to consider the dynamics still at play.
