In 2018, the information security industry received a new standard for privacy: the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Since its implementation on May 25, the law has revolutionised the way companies around the globe handle and store personal data, forcing entities to re-evaluate their methods for securing sensitive information and pushing security, IT and compliance professionals to find innovative solutions.
Compliance experts are encouraging the use of the GDPR as a baseline privacy framework, regardless of where an organisation is located and from where it is collecting data. Because so many countries plan to implement privacy regulations soon, it is prudent for companies to prepare accordingly.
