The ICO has published a video this morning form the chief commissioner, Elizabeth Dunham discussing the opportunities that GDPR will bring for businesses and organisations.
Ms Denham starts by saying “today is the first era in data protection.” In the age of big data and the continuing technological advancements and digital communication, the regulation is fit for purpose.
Ms Denham added, “for those who build customer trust and use personal data under the new arrangement the opportunity to improve your business and services you offer are enormous.”
Although many will be GDPR complaint and will have spent the time and resources to do so, small and micro businesses might not be quite there yet. But Ms Denham stresses that they should not panic: “the important thing is to take concrete steps to implement your new responsibilities to better protect customer data.”
